Hello! Sorry I've been light on content this week. I've been working up a storm on an extra special treat for the final shipment of my Transitions Club, and dyeing up yarn for the Fiber Barista's sock club....all of which ships next Friday. Can't wait to see the look on the faces of the people in the post office when I bring this lot in! (And then the relief when they discover I've paid for most of the postage at home!!)

Coincidently, my friend at Northern Dyeworks has been working hard on a website and cart for Fiber Baristas, and she unveiled it today. Which means you can now sign up for the Fiber Barista Fiber Club!!

Who said 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'? Well, ok....but when diamonds aren't forthcoming, a girl can pamper herself with some lovely pinks and bite of chocolate.

This kettle dyed Tiger Twist sock yarn is called Black Cherry. The Tiger Twist is now in the bigger 4oz skeins, so plenty for your socks and a mitered blanket square or two. The high twist on this yarn makes it long lasting and great for showing stitch work.

Next we have a beautiful variegated yarn in all the tints and shades of pink. I've had this color before, but changed brands of dye....so this experiment was needed, and as you see....very worthwhile! I present Lipstick Jungle.

And finally, I brought back an old favorite and jazzed it up a bit. Who can resist a Chocolate Bomb Pop in two flavors of luscious rasberry and a double helping of rich dark chocolate?

I have a great group of friends who are also indie dyers. We've been having a great time together online, and decided to put our talents together. We call ourselves the Fiber Baristas, and 9 of us are presenting this first club. In Postcards from Home, each month you will receive a sock yarn that is dyed with the dyers home area in mind, plus some information (or postcard) of the area. It's a great way to sample many different dyers! We are now open for membership, pop on over to FiberBaristas.blogspot.com !

It's that season again, so it seems like a good time to mention the original side of ThePaintedTiger..... custom knit striped rugby scarves. How is this done, you may ask? You simply choose two colors from my list of Red, Burgundy, Orange, Yellow, Gold, Green, Hunter, Blue, Navy, Grey, Brown, Cream, White, and Black (other colors may be available upon request), choose your fringe length, and check out. Your scarf will be knit and in the mail to you within 10 days of order.

This is the BIG scarf, and measures about 7 inches wide and 80 inches long. This particular one was requested in Gryffindor colors of Harry Potter fame. All of my scarves are knitted in a thick rib knit and then carefully finished so the ends don't flare out. Then I add your choice of fringe....none, 3", or 7".

As you can see, the scarf itself is about knee length on an average person, and the fringe hangs around the shins. It makes the custom scarf perfect for wrapping, and the BIG size can even be used to wrap the head if needed.

Like the length but not the width? I offer the LONG Custom Scarf. These knit scarves are 5 inches wide and 80 inches long. This particular Navy Blue and Gold (Maize) scarf was given as a Christmas gift to a Michigan fan.

Finally, I have the Regular Custom Knit Scarf. The size is 5 x 70 inches, which puts the scarf around mid-thigh on most people (before fringe). It's the perfect length for car coats, or if you like your scarf for decoration instead of functionality. This yellow and black combo was very popular last year as a scarf for Hufflepuff, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Appalacian State.

Here's what is 'fresh from the dyepot' this week. I've been concentrating on filling out my selection of Tiger Twist colors. If you haven't tried this yarn base yet, you are in for a treat. This 100% Superwash Merino Wool yarn is specifically spun just for making socks. It has a tight twist, and is a bit overplyed to make it very sturdy and amazingly springy. It will also lend great stitch definition to your projects.

First up is Cascade. It is a blend of deep pine green, browns and tans, and a splash of aqua/teal.

Next is Bed of Roses. It has crisp greens and perky pinks.

This next one I had some trouble naming, but my friends on Ravelry helped me out! This is Suede and Sapphire, and is mostly browns, gold, and just a splash of stunning blue.

Antique Rose has gentle linen tans, a soft green, and gentle burgundy.

Winter Morning has soft blues, greys, and a bit of buttery sun peeking through.

This one is on supersock....Cranberry is a saturated red just right for the holidays.

Limeade is on my merino lace, and is a refreshing semi-solid to show off your pattern.

I'm also trying to fill out some colors of semi-solids. This week I did sage and pale purple. Each is available on Supersock and Tiger Twist.

This is Stars & Stripes, Forever. As you can see, it is a self-patterning red, white, and blue yarn. The stripes knit up to about 2 rows each, and the field of stars to about 4 rows. This year, I will be dyeing this on a new yarn, a Merino/Bamboo/Nylon blend. I've come up with some new ways to streamline production, so I am excited to be able to offer more of them this year. I am taking pre-orders on this yarn so I can order the right amount of base yarn. I hope to offer more this summer, but I'm not making any guarantees beyond the initial pre-orders. Stars & Stripes will be offered in the sock club, also.

This is Rainbow Brite Stripe. This will also be on the Bamboo blend yarn. The shades of colors will be different, but you will get a bright cheerful rainbow with colors that go 2-3 rows on standard socks. This yarn is also offered in the sock club, and separately via Pre-Order.

I got in a new brand of dyes this week, so I don't have bunches to show you, but I hope you'll enjoy them none-the-less!!

This is April Showers, which is a thick and thin art yarn I hand spun from roving I dyed in a gentle blue grey with bits of pink and purple. I plied it with a gray thread and seed beads in blue, purple, and clear...both sparkly and pearlescent.

It hit a treasury that went to the front page on Sunday night, and is now up to 382 views!!!

This purple and pink yarn is the result of the roving I showed you last week. I ended up with about 203 yards, and I'm pretty happy with it. My first ply was not nearly as good as my second, but that is how things go, right?

This is Cinnamon Toast, which is hand dyed on Superwash Merino & Nylon Sock Yarn.

This rainbow roving is 85% wool and 15% mohair, from the Brown Sheep Company. There are about 4.1 ounces.

My Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Showers lace yarn sold out within 5 minutes on Etsy last week, so I made 2 more. One will go up later today on Etsy, the second to follow when the first sells.

After doing clouds, I needed some rainbows, so here is a full study of the genre! All of these are on my favorite base, a Superwash Merino and Nylon blend sock yarn.

Tropical Rainbow - These started out as pure primaries, allowing mixing in between.

Color Wheel - I used more standard red and blue here, which led to a darker green and purple.

Faded Glory Rainbow - I used the same dye stock as Color Wheel, except now they were murked up a bit, and the base yarn was dyed a pale yellow.

Harvest Rainbow - This one is my favorite, and will be impossible to replicate exactly, as I used the same dye baths as above and the base yarn was a weird pale green color.

Cinnamon Fern - Just for good measure, I threw in this study in greens and browns.

As usual, these hand dyed sock yarns will be listed on Etsy and ThePaintedTiger.

'Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Showers' was part commission, and part EtsyFAST challenge (April's theme is Storms). She picked one, this is the other! Laceweight Merino.

Here is some more Koi Pond....I can't hardly keep it in stock, so I made more! The green is a little more loud on this version. Superwash Merino & Nylon Sock Yarn.

I'm calling this 'Purple Rain', mostly so it will fit in the Storms challenge. Can you tell I love purple?!?Here is another version of 'Designer's Challenge'. This one is more brown, and the blue is bluer.And this little stash is for me to play with on my spinning wheel....I have some ideas for art and novelty yarns.

Here's what is 'Fresh from the Dyepot' this week!

Designer's Challenge - I saw this combination in a shelter magazine. The sofa was blue, the walls chocolate, and the lamps and throw pillows were orange. Although not my style for in the house, it makes a striking combination. Don't you want to knit some socks from this hand painted yarn?

Impatiens - This pretty coral pink reminds me of the hanging basket of impatiens my family usually buys for me for Mother's Day.

Ruby Red - This dark red semi-solid yarn was created for a client through Etsy's Alchemy. The base yarn is 70% Merino wool, 30% silk.

Color Wheel - I tried a different method of making my ever popular hand dyed rainbow sock yarn, and this is what happened. The burgundy was a bit of a surprise, but the yarn is still stunning!

Rusty - This yarn started as orange, then I dumped in some red. A week later, I wasn't quite happy with it, and I had some leftover dye from Ruby Red up there, so I over-dyed it again. The beautiful subtle highlights and depth of color were hard to capture on camera.

Orange Red - Ok, I am seldom at a loss for a yarn title, but this one eluded me. This is also an overdye that started more yellowy-orange, and then I added a layer of red.

Nessie - This has to be my favorite this week. I started playing with shades of color, and so here is my blue-green tribute to the legendary Loch Ness Monster.

On a whim, I checked my hearts on Etsy today. Hmmm....that's strange, I received 11 new hearts today (I generally get 3-4, more if I've been an especially helpful girl in the forums). So I did some research. Turns out that this treasury curated by PoeticPurl was promoted to the front page today. I missed the front pagey-ness, but I did a screenshot of the treasury.

In other news, I finally caved, and am launching my own real independant website. I'm busy loading it up now, and I will definitely announce the opening here! So, if you don't see much for new yarn, you will know why! (That, and I'm waiting on a huge yarn shipment!)

The opening of Yarny-Goodness has been delayed due to technical problems out of Pam's control, but she still plans to open soon. I have exciting news about that coming soon, too!

Well, it turns out that this week I did a bit of dyeing in pairs. Even double pairs!

These two rainbow skeins were custom hand dyed by request on Worsted Weight Peruvian Wool Yarn, 4.5-5 stitches per inch on #6-9 needles, 220 yards, 100g4 ply. I bought 10 skeins each of the worsted and bulky weights of this yarn, so expect to see them show up over the coming weeks.

To further add to my offerings of hand painted yarn in weights other than sock, I made some Tutti Fruity skeins in both Lace Weight Merino (880 yards), and Worsted Superwash Merino (270 yards). I have two of each.

And finally, remember that last time I didn't want to give up my Forest Glade Yarn? These turned out a bit more intense, but no less lovely! I give you Forest on my ever popular Superwash Merino & Nylon Sock Yarn, and on a Lopi Style Bulky Single Ply. Again, I have two skeins of each.

Here are the results of my dyeing for this week. These will start appearing on Etsy on Monday, or you can contact me if you want them sooner. They are all on my 80% Superwash Merino Wool 20% Nylon sock yarn. Rooster Tail, Emerald Isle, and Triple Berry Frost are all Chaos dyed for varied patterning, and the rest are regularly variegated.

You might have to pry the Forest Glade out of my hands though. I'm rather fond of it. :)

The Long and the Skinny of it

It is frighteningly cold here, but fortunately I've had scarves to knit and keep me warm. Here are two custom numbers. One is a Big Black and Grey with 3 extra stripes, and the Black and White on top is a 3" x 80". I'm glad to oblige with such custom requests, since I only make the scarves once they are ordered anyway.

Most people have been finding me through search engines for the scarves, so I am seriously thinking of opening up a true web storefront. I will let you know how that whole process goes.

Hand Dyed Sock and Lace yarns

My dyepot has been busy, since I didn't dye much in December while I was knitting scarves like crazy. My yarn is going to be part of a new online shop that will carry unique indie dyed yarns. It will be called Yarny-Goodness, and I'll give you the link once it is launched later this month.

Since my own dyed yarn coffers were nearing empty, I made most of the yarns you see in this post in twos. One twin will be listed in my shop, ThePaintedTiger, and the other twin will be at Yarny-Goodness. A few yarns here will only appear in one shop or the other.

Elements Series

My elements series was a big hit last year, so I've done 'em again! Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind are done 'Chaos' style, which means the variation is going to vary throughout your project. The yarn base is Superwash Merino & Nylon (80/20%) three ply sock yarn, with a suggested gauge of 6.75-8 stitches per inch on #1-3 needles. There are 420 yards per each 100g skein, plenty for an adult pair of socks.

Romance, Cheerful, Attitude Pink, Chocolate Raspberry, and I Like Coffee, I Like Tea are all hand painted on 100% Merino wool two ply lace yarn. There are 880 yards per 100g skein.

Here are a few more colorways on the Superwash Merino Nylon base yarn. Cheerful is only available in my shop, and Lime! will only be available at Yarny Goodness. (Sophisicated will be there, also, but I didn't get a good picture of it.) Gentle and Black-n-Blue will be in both shops.

Contest Yarn

Finally, is a yarn I dyed especially for Yarny-Goodness. She wants a signature yarn for her shop, and has challenged all the dyers to create an Earth themed yarn. The winner will be the signature dyer, and the other yarns will be featured and sold. My creation is called A Slice of Heaven and Earth. The yarn is split in two for a toe up pattern, as this yarn never repeats a stripe. It starts at the firey center of the earth, travels through the earthy layers, through the ocean, samples the lovely greens on land, up into purple mountains, a stunning sunset, and through the ever darkening blues of the sky to inky night with stars. It was fun figuring out how to create it, and I hope it is well received. I may do some more of these no repeat yarns, but perhaps a bit less complicated! :)

I made it! Scarf season is officially over, and I took my listings down for a week so there won't be any confusion about availability for Christmas. I shipped the last 6 scarves this morning, for a total of 54 scarves I've knit in 2007, most of them in the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thank you all who purchased, and I appreciate your kind comments !

Over the weekend, I was featured on the homepage of Etsy for my Tropical Rainbow yarn, and I sold two skeins of that, plus 3 other skeins from my shop. I was glad, as I haven't been promoting my yarn much lately, what with scarves and choir practice taking up much of my time. (Our cantata went fabulously, and no one threw their fruitcake back at us!)

I'm planning to curl up with my favorite Christmas short story book tonight, and take a long deserved break. Hope you are doing some of your favorite things, too!

I opened my e-mail from Site Meter, expecting my usual 20 or so visitors in a week. Nope 280 visitors this week. I was sure it was a typo, but no....I managed to sell some things to other bloggers, who blogged about me! Gotta love networking.

Finished stockings!

I finally finished the stocking for my friend. I took out the large snowman, and went with some smaller ones for a more vintage look. She was very pleased! I hope to have these up for production next Christmas, with a variety of designs.

This little ornament stocking I knit for the ornament exchange our Mom's group has. It gets rather heated with stealing and such (we do it White Elephant style). This is modified from a full sized stocking idea in the Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts edition. It also was well received, but alas, it was opened last so no one got to fight over it. (But I'm still glad one of my friends has it.) Next year I must use more enticing wrapping!!

New Hand Dyed Yarns for Fiber Friday!

Between knitting scarves, I managed to dye up some yarn. Below are more rainbows....the left is Sock weight, and the right is Worsted.

The two below are sock yarns. One a yummy collection of browns, and the other a fun confetti pattern. Neither are rewound yet. All these yarns will appear in my Etsy shop soon, if you want sooner, drop me a line!

I shipped out 5 more custom scarves this morning, and this one was of special note. The skinny stripes are time consuming with tucking ends, but the result is strikingly cool. I apologize for the lousy lighting. It's been freezing and overcast, so you get camera flash! (Edited: Here are a couple outside shots of a second scarf I knit in this pattern).

Scarves, yarn, and packages, oh my!

Black Friday (and the days surrounding it) were good to me! Here is my latest shipment.... 5 scarves, and three skeins of yarn. I'm going to have a similar pile to ship out tomorrow!

The yarn came in for the Christmas Stocking, so I am hoping to get that knit up sometime this weekend. I dyed up oodles of yummy yarn yesterday, and I'll try to post some for you to see tomorrow (it'll be Fiber Friday, after all!).

Christmas Stockings!

Yes, it's time for Christmas again, and I am working on a Christmas stocking for a friend of mine. This is the prototype. I started too late to make many of these for this Christmas, but I hope to take orders for next year.

Otherwise, Black Friday was good to me, I have orders for 8 scarves. I bought a showcase on Etsy today, since it is Cyber Monday, and hope to sell many more. It isn't that long until Dec 10, when I need to stop taking orders for Christmas delivery! Off to knit, hope your Thanksgiving was as enjoyable as mine was!

Rainbows are back!

What you are drooling over at the moment is worsted weight Superwash Merino Wool Yarn, hand dyed in a beautiful Tropical Rainbow. Each color morphs into the next, giving you many shades. I think it is my best rainbow yet, and there are 4 skeins of it. Hat, mittens, and scarf anyone?

If you prefer socks, I made two skeins of Superwash Merino & Nylon (80/20) sock yarn in the exact same dyelot. Those will be listed soon.

As an aside, there has been much....um.....encouragement from the forums community of Etsy for the search function to be improved. I have been soooooo busy!

Yeah, yeah....no 'how busy were you' jokes here. We just had our choir concert for RiverChor (it went fabulously, thank you), and now that I am finished with that I can get back to yarn making. To tide you over until new ones dry, here are a couple hand dyed sock yarns I managed to fit into my schedule. On the left is Turkey Time, and the right is Koi Pond. Below is Springy, and another 'Big' Custom Knit Rugby Scarf. I also made one in white and purple.

The new owner had this testimonial: "an emphatic yahoo! over my new scarf...now that's a scarf...perfect length for wrapping and such nice workmanship...thank you so very much."

Fiber Friday!

I had the opportunity to create two custom order scarves this week. The one above is a Harry Potter style scarf in Gryffindor colors. The buyer wanted wool....so here it is, my first luxuriously soft superwash wool scarf. You can purchase your own custom wool scarf in my Etsy or Ecrater shops. (Well, when I get the listing up later today!)

The World’s Greatest Holiday Shopping List
Most of you are all familiar with my Etsy shop, but I wonder how many of you know about a great Etsy feature that you might just use yourself this holiday season?I’m talking about the “Favorites” feature on Etsy. Although it’s not meant to be specifically a wish list for holiday shopping, you can easily use it to your advantage that way.

It’s simple. Just login to your Etsy account (if you don’t have one, registering is simple and requires no detailed personal information beyond your e-mail address and name), and then browse around to find things you love. When you come upon an item of interest, within the listing description you’ll see a link on the lower right side that says “Add Item to Favorites.” Just click that link and the item will be marked as a “favorite.”

Now here’s the fun part. When your husband or sister or best friend or mother asks what you might like as a gift this holiday season, you can point them to your list. All they have to do is type your Etsy ID name in their browser, followed by ".etsy.com." (For example, my username is ThePaintedTiger, so my URL is: http://ThePaintedTiger.etsy.com) Even if you don’t have a shop on Etsy, a page still comes up and on that page there is a link that says, “Favorites.” There, your gift-giving loved ones can find your wish list. How cool is that?!

Once your list is complete, it is a simple to send it on. Got to your favorites list and copy the url. Then simply email it, blog it, or casually mention it in your Christmas letter! Please do update your list regularly, though, and be sure the items are available. Sold and expired items will continue to show in your list, so avoid frustration and keep it clean!

And, of course, if you are more of the giving sort and not so interested in your own wish list, you can ask your friends and family to make their own wish lists to help you out with your shopping this holiday season.

This week, I dabbled in semi-solid hand dyed sock yarn. The random shadings of light and dark are deceptively tricky to produce (and photograph), but I think these turned out well!

From top left, then clockwise:

Wasabi, Cranberry, Indigo, Mandarin Orange, Blue Skies

All of these are in a high quality Superwash Merino and Nylon blend (80/20%). The yarn is on the thick side of fingering (420 yards per 100 grams) for projects that knit up just a bit more quickly, and has a nice twist for good stitch definition. Show off your favorite color AND your favorite new stitch pattern! Jaywalkers, anyone?

It's scarf season again!!

Recently I have begun to receive orders for custom knit scarves. You can see here the black and white scarf in Super Size (or also known as the BIG scarf). It is about 74" x 7" and has a nice floppy drape. The scarves are rib knit, so if you need to cover your head, this large scarf will stretch and fit nicely for that. The Gryffindor style Harry Potter scarf in gold and burgundy is in my regular size, about 64" x 5", with long 7" fringe. It is going to a lucky young lady who is using it as part of her Halloween costume.

This pile of yarn is from my stash of New Zealand yarn. It is a bit scratchy, but felts really nicely, so it is great for felting/fulling projects, as well as rugs and tapestries. I have even had Etsians make Amigurumis with them The white and tan are in Sport weight and the grey is slightly thicker at DK weight. This week I am taking two 100 yard skeins of each and over dyeing them in rainbow colors. I'd done this before, and you can see the whole rainbow in this listing here. I only have the yellow and a couple reds from my previous dyelots, so it is time to redo them. Unfortunately, this will likely be my last batch of the grey, since my supplier is going out of business this month. I do have plenty of the white and tan, so there will be a couple more batches of those. I love seeing how my hand mixed colors take differently as I hand dye these different colored base yarns. Expect more pictures soon!

Hand Dyed Rainbow Yarns are back! This time in Worsted and Bulky weights. On each of these yarns, the rainbow repeats approximately every two yards. My base yarns are purchased from a domestic mill that has been in business for over 100 years.

The lovely above is a bulky weight twist yarn. It is 81% wool, 17% Mohair, and 2% Polyester. The poly wrap string dyes slightly differently, so it adds some kick (and kink) to the yarn. There are 210 yards in each of the two skeins I made, and the gauge is 3-4 st = 1" on US 9-10 needles.

Next is this fabulous worsted sock yarn. It is 100% Superwash Merino wool. I love how superwash takes up the colors so brightly. There are 270 yards per skein (I dyed 4), gauge is 5 st = 1" on US needle 7. Can you imagine mittens and a matching hat made of this?

And finally we have my favorite. This is a bulky, barely spun blend of 60% New Zealand wool and 40% US Domestic wool. It looks hand spun, and some would say this is lopi style (whatever that means). There are 120 yards (I made 2), gauge is 3-4 st = 1" on US needle 9-11. This yarn matches the Mauch Chunky line of yarns available from Kraemer yarns. They only offer solids, so knit up something great and trim it with the rainbow yarn!

Wild Thang!!

Here is one of our newest residents...there are three of these little guys (plus big mama), and they are such fun to watch as they play tag in the trees behind our home at dusk. (We keep the garbage tightly away from them!!)

I made it!

Etsy recently held a Treasury style poster contest, and my yarn made it onto this winning entry. The picture will be blown up into a poster and given away at festivals. I also had yarn on a Rainbow honorable mention entry, and apparently I was included in 5 total entries. Not bad for a shop that usually has only 35 items!!

My ball winder arrived!!

I totally caved and purchase a really nice ball winder from Nancy's Knit Knacks. It looks neat, and winds these super cool balls! Trust me, it was worth every penny, and now I can wind the yarn into center pull balls for you! Above are some other colors I've been working on. The first is Gobble, Gobble (remember making those construction paper turkeys as a kid....same colors!). The bottom two are the exact same rainbow dyebath. On the left is a Superwash Merino/Nylon blend, and the one on the right is laceweight Merino wool. Amazing how the superwash treatment really changes how the color takes on the yarn. These are being wound and will appear in my Etsy shop within the next week.

Elements

Super soft Merino wool and Silk blend sock yarn, dyed in the colors suggested by the four elements. Clockwise from top left: Wind is a tornadic blend of greys, blacks, purples, and flashes of fushia and yellow. Fire contains yellow, red, fushia, and orange hues. Earth explores the brown tones. Water is a beautiful swimming cove of clear blues. Each is 440 yards, 100g. Plenty for socks, scarf, mittens, whatever!

Speaking of elements, I'd like to say that the wind took this tree limb down, but it really was due to all the cherries on it. (It's a black cherry).

It is hard to see in the picture, but that is completely blocking our neighbor's drive. Our tree, though, so we had to chop it up in nearly 90 degree weather. Air conditioning never felt so good.

These twin fawns were born on our property in June, and are getting quite large now. Their mother likes to gnaw on my green beans through the fence. Although not tame, the deer are not terribly afraid. I was maybe 20 feet away when I snapped this picture, and had to walk a fair ways first.

Checkin' in!

Things have been busy in the real life of ThePaintedTiger, what with a new (to us) home to landscape and save from erosion (we're on a hill). So I have been sadly neglecting my dyeing and knitting. Do not despair...I have just put in a large order for Merino and Superwash sock yarn, and the lure of blank canvas will ensure that I will quickly have it dyed and up on Etsy lickity split (where IS that box of yarn already????) And yes, I will do several skeins of the rainbow striping yarn...be sure to watch my shop, or let me know that you are interested, since they always go fast.

I am also ordering a small batch of 100% bamboo yarn. I understand that is it naturally antibacterial, so I'm interested to try it for myself, and see if anyone else wants some too!

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy your Memorial weekend....the weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful here in Eastern Iowa, and I intend to be outside for most of it!

Here's my entry for the Beads4You Winter Challenge on Etsy. All entrants purchased the same set of beads and made something fabulous with it. I made this hat with beaded hat pin-like picks. I knitted a superlong ribbed 1 inch strip on my knitting machine (yes, quite tedious), then stitched it around into a large hat, that I fulled down to human size. It is quite thick and warm, and will probably end up as a gift for my mother, although your comments could inspire me to make one for sale.

Recap for 2006: Whew, what a busy year! Just for the curious, I landed a big 46 scarf order from WinStanley in Mass. just before Christmas. Between that and my previous orders, I made 87 scarves in 2006. Here's a pic of the big order ready to ship....that's a BIG box!!

Other special orders included this rugby hat with a secret message inside (I'm not telling, but it was romantic!!), and this more managable version of a Dr. Who scarf that went to a fan in Italy.

Things have been bustling around here! I received the first scarf order of the season, a navy and white number! I'm also possibly getting a contract to make scarves as a fundraiser for the high school band. They will have the school initials in double jaquard on one end of a solid color scarf. I'm pretty excited about it!

My big project right now is a maternity sweater I was commissioned to make. The mom sent me the yarn, and I am nearing completion. Here is a pic of one sleeve. The body is a deep purple chenille like yarn with a metallic thread in it, and the edging is a violet, lavender, and silver ribbon yarn. It is really pretty.

I LUV Etsy Swap! I recently participated in the Etsy Swap (http://www.etsy.com/forums_topic.php?thread_id=14000). The person I created for loved gardening, natural materials, and has 4 children, so I created this monogrammed knit throw pillow in natural cotton for her, and hand painted on the dyes.

I received a couple of skeins of hand spun yarn from Hobbledehoy similar to this: http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=305629, plus a couple of her button pins with flowers on them.

It was a fun experience, and I got to try out the filet-knit technique!

Spring break this week, which means I've been chasing kids instead of listing auctions. I did manage to get these silk cords dyed for LoopityLoopGlam on Etsy, and she has outfitted them with the cool clasps and charms. Said she sold a bunch over the weekend.

Tumblers!

Here's a bunch that go up for sale Saturday. The daffodil and 'kite' sets are Anchor Hocking (two different marks). The daisies are unknown. The child's pink elephant, blue lambs, and squirrels/deer are all unmarked.

Received two questions about the egg cups today, one from a very nice lady who wanted to know combined shipping for about 8 to Australia. Thus I discovered Economy Letter Post (Surface). Slow, but cheap. She bid, so now 16 out of the 26 auctions will sell! Yipee!

It is good have this encouragement...my enthusiasm has been waning. I'll have to get back on the ball about listing.

Cookie Jars, Glasses, and Bottles....oh My! The egg cups are going ok on Ebay, the proof is in the closing pudding, so to say. Next week is going to be an interesting mix of Pontil Bottles, Cookie Jar Lids, and retro glasses and pitchers.

I went a sorting through the many boxes of stuff and began organizing them by material or type. I have a box of toys, another of vintage games, and others with metal dishware, melmac, pfaltzgraff, vases/planters...some McCoy, Haeger, etc, a large collection of fireking/pyrex, all the cutlery with bakelite handles you would ever need, and a pile of figurines. It'll sure keep me busy!

I was greatly amused at my research for the cookie jar lids. The Yarn Doll (complete) is listed in the cookie jar book for $130, and the Majorette by Royal at $500. I saw completed auctions on Ebay for MUCH less than that. Guess E-bay isn't all it's cracked up to be!!!

Yarn! Yes, I dye yarn, and here are a few examples. All of this is 2/19 Inca wool (laceweight), that I dyed with professional acid dyes. I sold these on Ebay for an average of $25 for 8 skeins of 215 yards each.

Well, with it being nearly 70 degrees here today, I thought I had better put this pic up. These acrylic knit hats and scarves were a big hit over the Christmas season, and people found me by doing a Google or Froogle search. Pretty cool! The pictured set was for a gal at Harvard, and I also did ones for Tufts, University of Texas, and University of Iowa. Another bunch were made to match coats or high school colors. Since I have been doing well on these, I haven't tried marketing outside of where they are: www.thepaintedtiger.ecrater.com. Check em out...it might not be that cold anymore, but you know winter will come back sometime!

Otherwise, I have been hacking away at setting up my main page for Auctiva. I like the auctions it makes, it is just really tedious to do any extensive editing on there since I am on dialup. I needed to revamp my general template so all I have to do is stick in the item description, photo(s), and shipping weight and be done with each. This next week I am going to list all of my Mom's egg cups, so look for pics of that coming up.
